Historically, in the western society women have been rooted against each other and widely portrayed as competitive, jealous and incapable of getting along, many children’s fairy tales being prime examples. But as we explore in this episode of Sisters on Air, this narrative is far from the truth for Muslim women who have a unique perspective when it comes to friendships.

Episode 27. The Theme for this show is ‘Persecution’. And in the next half an hour you will get to hear a five poem of different styles of poetry from people on this theme. There are some people, tribes, communities, all around the world which are being persecuted for different reasons, quite often because they are seen as weaker or a threat of some kind, whether the threat is religion, caste, ethnicity, their social status or the colour of their skin. And we witness this being continually repeated throughout history by people, groups, countries and nations in some way or form. Strangely enough, all of the poems I received on this theme focused on the persecution on Muslims, however I hope this show will give you a small example of the pain felt by some of those being persecuted, and perhaps even move you, or allow you to see the whole of mankind with a more compassionate heart, regardless of who they are. The first poem is from the very talented poet Sister Faiza Kiran, a truly poetical jewel with her inspiring poem from Hartlepool, titled Paradise Lost. The next poem is quite specifically about the persecution of Ahmadi Muslims, from a wonderful poetical star the acclaimed poet Zafar Bhatti from the midlands in Leamington Spa with his poem titled ‘The Silent Voice’. This is then followed by another poet also from the Midlands, from the aspiring young Sabahat Ahmad, full of talent who reads his wonderful poem titled Sunset with such admirable gallant and paints the grim reality of those being persecuted. A wonderful poem is next, about the treatment of Muslims in Palestine, a story of the bondage of its subjects by those bringing closer its frontline, from an Imam, Mansoor Clarke who is a Missionary of Islam, with his very moving poem that which would make any human very emotional. The final poem is from the acclaimed poet Muddabir Khalid who brings an inspiring style on the dire persecution of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community who are being forced to live in a state of exile, being put to trial, without release, living a life in exile for their beliefs.

Episode 69. Theory of Knowledge. Part I. How Do We Know? The main question in Theory of Knowledge is “How do we know?” and thus we naturally spend some time talking about the nature of knowledge. In the first part of this series, we ask ourselves: What is knowledge? How does knowledge differ from belief? What is the difference between knowledge, information and wisdom? More importantly, what are the ways of knowing? In Theory of Knowledge, there are four ways of knowing, which we would like to explore here perception, language, reason and emotion. If we take any one thing that claim to know and we ask ourselves how we know it, we could potentially trace it back to one of these four sources: either we saw it, heard it or we read it, we reasoned through it or we have an instinctive feeling that it is true. Of course, none of these ways are infallible and are in many ways a double edged in that they can be a source and an obstacle to it. In the first of this series, we take a look at each of these knowledge tools and consider the extent to which they can be relied on to make sense of the world.
